Who We Are

SO Consulting brings a wide variety of expertise to the problems you face. Each of our consultants has long experience and deep understanding of organisation change. All of them also have a passion for working alongside their clients, for creating lasting results, and for building long-term capability.

Su will assemble an experienced team to match your organisation sector, style and needs. They each have a minimum of 20 years experience working with senior levels across different industries, or in the public sector. They will always be introduced to you before any work is agreed (not as a surprise later!).

The Team

Su Openshaw

Su spent 12 years as a partner in an established Organisation Change Consultancy before setting up her own business 2 years ago. She has worked at senior levels in global businesses spanning most industries as well as within the public sector.

Su’s primary area of expertise is in working globally, in complex, changing environments, to help leaders make sense of their world, and build their competence and confidence in tackling the challenges that are critical for them.

She is frequently described as demonstrating courage and independent thinking, which she uses intuitively to develop individuals, teams and organisations with skill and sensitivity, and whose determination achieves results.

Recent projects have included:
Global Trade organisation – Consulted to the Directors to identify leadership challenges within each Division and across the organisation. Designed and delivered bespoke interventions for each team whilst creating readiness for organisational change.

World Economic Forum – Provision of Executive Coaching to Directors. We work together to explore challenges and develop awareness of underlying patterns. Areas covered include developing strategic thinking and flexing leadership styles to meet different cultural needs; Provision of team coaching to enable a new team to commit to the strategy and align their actions to it. Integration of changes into ‘work as usual’.

Global Wildlife Conservation Organisation – Facilitation of a retreat to enable the Development team to utilise their different styles more effectively and celebrate their success; Created and delivered a flexible and responsive design for a Facilitation Skills Workshop that met the needs of a wide ranging group of participants.

Positive Power and Influence – Successfully delivered the renowned Positive Power and Influence Programme (PPI) in a variety of formats in organisations across Europe in my role as an accredited trainer.

Brian Caie

Brian has more than 30 years’ experience in developing people, facilitating groups and consulting on organisational change. Following an HR career in two of the oil majors he joined Sheppard Moscow, a niche OD consultancy, in 1987. Over a 25 year career there, he brought the business to Scotland, capitalising it in 1995. He developed it into a significant profit centre over the next decade where it gained a reputation for having a unique and model culture. He also played a key role in growing the Asia Pacific business and served as a Director there from 2002-8. When the businesses merged into an LLP, he became a Senior Partner and took up the role of Programme Director for Leadership Development until leaving in June 2012.

Brian has a BSc in Engineering, a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and an MBA with distinction from the International Management Centre (IMCB). He is qualified in a range of psychometrics such as Myers-Briggs, Lifestyles and the Leadership Development Framework. He has been licensed as a lead trainer for Positive Power and Influence since 1988. Over the last 10 years he has been instrumental in creating a new wave of Leadership Development and Personal Mastery materials which are now used widely in well-known global clients. Brian believes he works best when working ‘in the moment’ with individuals and groups. Clients say he makes it easy for them to discuss difficult issues with him. He has also coached extensively, particularly within the health, enterprise and power sectors.

Pip Haydock

Having worked in learning and development roles in large organisations and in organisation development consultancies, Pip has experience of leading, project managing and delivering leadership and change programmes.

Pip is also an experienced coach, studying the profession to Masters level.

What her clients particularly appreciate about her is her ability to speak the normally unspeakable in a positive and non threatening way; her sense of fun and integrity.
